Purpose and Instruction

At the South Tech Academy Film and Broadcasting program students will work in a Macintosh computer environment.

Apple’s professional digital applications are the standard for professional photographers, filmmakers, editors, sound designers, music producers, and multimedia artists. Certifications are available for all applications, including, DVD Studio Pro, Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Soundtrack Pro. In addition to the Apple platform students will be working in studio and mobile television settings.  Students will gain experience in Producing, Directing, Technical Directing, Audio Engineering, EVS, Teleprompting, Stage managing, Camera techniques, as well as on camera talent and reporting.

Filmmakers can enjoy shooting, editing and distributing their films in HDV. The Film and Broadcasting Academy has state-of-the-art cameras and editing suites.

The program includes script writing and development, character development, acting, producing, directing, editing techniques and film  appreciation. All student films are entered into the Palm Beach Student Film Festival where students can win prizes and gain recognition within the film community.

This program provides students with hands-on training for initial employment in the television/film industry.   Studies include the  techniques  and art  of:

  • studio camera operation
  • linear and non-linear editing
  • Electronic Field Production operations
  • electronic news gathering
  • video, audio & technical engineering
  • set design and construction
  • studio and EFP lighting
  • script writing, and
  • directing and producing a production
