PRESS RELEASE – For Immediate Release
Boynton Beach, FL – South Tech Academy Charter School once again lends its support to the community by helping the less fortunate for the Thanksgiving holiday. For the second year in a row, South Tech provided a substantial donation to the Bill Brooks’ Food for Families drive.
South Tech Academy’s students and staff members collected, in an astounding one week, 1,445 food items for the drive. Students in the Career Opportunities and Related Education (C.O.R.E.) played a primary role to the success of the School’s participation as they coordinated the campus-wide food collection and sorted the products. Barbara Haffner, C.O.R.E. Program Coordinator, states, “For the past two years, I’ve had the pleasure of participating with South Tech Academy’s students and staff for this worthy cause. A great big thanks to everyone at South Tech for a job well done, especially the C.O.R.E. students who were an integral part of the collecting and boxing process.”
Named after Bill Brooks, former WPTV Vice President and General Manager, the Bill Brooks’ Food for Families drive is in its 26th year of service in Palm Beach County. The drive collects food from organizations and individuals throughout the County to assist those in need during the Thanksgiving holiday.
The Transition Services Department at South Tech Academy, which includes the C.O.R.E. program, serves over 170 students. This program guides students in transitioning from high school to either the workforce and/or continuing education. Instructors provide secondary and vocational education, in addition to serving as a resource and liaison pertaining to employment.
