PRESS RELEASE – For Immediate Release
Boynton Beach, FL – South Tech Academy Charter School once again participated in the Annual Gold Coast Down Syndrome Buddy Walk, recently held in John Prince Park, Lake Worth. The Walk consisted of over 2,500 participants, including over twenty of South Tech’s staff members and friends, who donated their time to support, raise awareness and advocate for individuals with Down syndrome.
“Team Kyle” was led by Kyle Davis, a client of the Palm Beach Habilitation Center Adult Day Training Program. Kyle’s family and friends also proudly represented the Team as they embarked on the Team’s One-mile Advocacy Walk. Further, an artistically designed banner was created by South Tech staff and students in the Career Opportunities and Related Education (C.O.R.E.) program which displayed the South Tech Academy logo, Buddy Walk information, and, most proudly, “Team Kyle.”
The Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization strives to educate individuals, families and the community in the respectable abilities and talents of individuals with Down syndrome by providing a wide array of resources and opportunities to become an educated and involved advocate. By hosting workshops, seminars and outreach events, such as the Buddy Walk, the Organization certainly has made a profound impact in Palm Beach County by illustrating that through each individual’s strengths and differences, we all contribute to an integral part of our flourishing community.
The Transition Services Department at South Tech Academy, which includes the C.O.R.E. program, serves over 170 students. This program guides students in transitioning from high school to either the workforce and/or continuing education. Instructors provide secondary and vocational education, in addition to serving as a resource and liaison pertaining to employment.
