Ana Lopez – Head Custodian

Ana LopezAna Lopez was born in Puerto Rico.  When she was five years old, her father passed away.  Two years later, her mother moved the family to Philadelphia where Ana studied in a Catholic school.  New Jersey was another place that Ana called home for a while.

Ana loved to dance as a child and remembers those years when she competed in dance competitions with great fondness.  “I always won first place” says Ana.  She competed in dance competitions until she was 13 years old.   When Ana was 21 years old, her mother passed away.

Ana married and has three daughters, four grandsons and one granddaughter.  Ana says that her grandchildren are the “light of her life”.

Ana began working at South Tech Academy in 1986.  In 1992, she was promoted to Head Custodian.  She also studied in South Tech’s Adult Program and received her certification in aesthetics.

Traveling by car is Ana’s favorite and preferred way to travel.  She enjoys visiting different cities and states and until now has been to Massachusetts, Texas, Chicago, Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey, Washington and of course, Florida.  Internationally, Ana has traveled to Mexico, Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Canada.  Ana says, “God willing and with good health, I have many other places I would like to visit.”

Ana says, “I have happily worked at South Tech for 24 years and my priority is to help the students, regardless of the age or nationality, and I thank the Administration and the staff for allowing me to be here with you.

CUSTODIAL FOREPERSON

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Custodial Foreperson reports directly to the Director of Academies and Operations.  The Custodial Foreperson is responsible for overseeing the Custodial Staff Members in maintaining a clean and safe environment, coordinating and inspecting the cleaning contractor’s services, and coordinating maintenance services between Administration, Supervisors, and workers.

REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of five years experience in public education required.  High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.  Successful experience in and demonstrated knowledge of school custodial work methods, materials, and equipment.  Ability to monitor staff members and correspond effectively both orally and in writing.

DUTIES: Assists Administration in duties related to school operations and performs specific duties consisting of, but not limited to, the following:

  • Works independently to routinely complete daily work schedule for the school within time frequency provided
  • Oversees and monitors the workload of assigned Custodians
  • Routinely follows proper cleaning procedures and uses proper cleaners productively, and according to directions
  • Routinely uses and operates cleaning equipment and tools
  • Moves furniture, collects and disposes of trash/garbage, and performs other related tasks necessary for the cleanliness of the school
  • Inspects work upon completion of assigned schedule and completes any unfinished work
  • Assists with custodial and sanitation inspections as requested
  • Cleans equipment and tools after use and stores in areas assigned
  • Provides training to individual custodians
  • Routinely reports safety hazards, malfunctions of equipment or plant facility or observed maintenance needs to immediate supervisor
  • Attends training courses as required
  • Follows adopted policies and procedures in accordance with school priorities
  • Conducts oneself in the best interest of students
  • Other Duties as Assigned

SALARY: Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience
